ISLAMIC, 'Abbasid Caliphate. temp. Al-Ma'mun, AH 199-218 / AD 813-833. Drachm (Silver, 32 mm, 3.24 g, 10 h), ʿAbbasid Governors of Eastern Sistan: Class IV. al-Layth, AH 200-204 / AD 815-819, Zaranj. Khosrau-type bust to right, wearing crown; behind head, countermark ‘al-Layth / jāʾiz’ (‘al-Layth, current’ in Arabic); before head, ‘hwslwb’, i.e. ‘Husraw’ (‘Khosrau’ in Pahlavi); in outer margin, ‘bism Allāh rabbī ˗ Ṣāliḥ ˗ Riḍā’ (‘In the name of Allah, my Lord. Salih Rida’ in Arabic)’. Rev. Fire altar with ribbons, flanked by two attendants; pseudo Pahlavi legends to left and right. Album B90 (with countermark stamped on type 89D). Zeno-201035 (this coin). Rare and nicely toned. Minor edge cracks and somewhat rough, otherwise, very fine.
